There are three types of masking in Illustrator, Clipping Masks, Layer Clipping Masks and Opacity Masks, and each one offers a powerful way of cropping and editing your art in Illustrator. In my online Illustrator class, Illustrator 2, I talk about all the different ways of masking and we complete a project that uses them in a practical design layout. Here's a sample video tutorial from my illustrator class that explains the basics of Layer Clipping Masks.
